Pre-Hispanic and Colonial Metallurgy in Jicalán, Michoacán, México: An Archaeological Survey

Acknowledgements

This ongoing research was financed by the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc., (FAMSI) Project #02011. The search for historical sources and their analysis was done by Hans Roskamp (Ethnohistorian and Project Leader), who also participated in the first phase of archaeological fieldwork (March-June 2003), together with the Archaeologists Mario Rétiz and Anyul Cuellar. Mario Rétiz was responsible for processing the data from our topographical survey and for drawing the detailed maps of the archaeological site. We thank the Consejo Nacional de Arqueología (National Council of Archaeology) and INAH (Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, National Institute of Anthropology and History), for their permission to undertake the survey, and Efraín Cárdenas and El Colegio de Michoacán for technical support. Finally, we are grateful to the authorities and inhabitants of Jicalán el Viejo for their trust and aid. Thanks also to Paul C. Kersey (Jacona, Michoacán) for the English translation of the original text.
