The Cascajal Block
The Cascajal Block and its text, claimed to be the oldest known example of writing in the Americas, is one of the most controversial objects to appear in Mesoamerica in recent years. While FAMSI does not take any sides in the several debates currently under way, we realize that many of the published reports, letters, and other relevant documents are either unknown to most interested people or difficult to access. Therefore, it has created the Cascajal Block Home Page, a complete listing of these documents with full citations and (when possible) URLs. We intend to maintain this page as an up-to-date single source for all the pertinent scholarly publications. We will not attempt to include news articles, secondary accounts, commentaries by journalists and other non-primary sources. These can be tracked down using web search engines such as Google and its competitors.
